Atletico Sign Back-To-Back Europa League Winning Stiker

Atletico Madrid has reached an agreement with Sevilla to sign French striker Kevin Gameiro on a four-year deal.

The deal taking Gameiro to Atletico reportedly cost a fee of £27m – the expenses of the move could still rise to £34m due to add-ons and incentives negotiated as part of the transfer.

Gameiro, 29,  will travel to Madrid on Saturday to be officially unveiled to the club’s fans and media outlets after completing his medical.

The forward was an integral part of the Sevilla side that clinched the Europa League title for the third time in a row last season, winning 3-1 in a final against Liverpool.

Gameiro’s arrival at the Vincente Calderon is also likely to put an end to the wide speculation surrounding Diego Costa and a potential return to the Spanish capital.

Gameiro is set to partner up with Griezmann next season as Los Rojiblancos will look to launch a title challenge.

After arriving from PSG where he scored 23 goals in two seasons, Gameiro became a mainstay in Sevilla’s lineup and managed 67 goals and 17 assists in his three seasons at the club.

What Gameiro can bring to Atletico

Atletico already has Antoine Griezmann, Angel Correa and Fernando Torres up front, on that note, Gameiro will find himself walking into a potent attacking lineup.

The two-time Champions League runners-up naturally make use of a highly structured 4-4-2 formation, although there is some fluidity on the flanks with Diego Simeone giving the likes of Koke, Carrasco and Filipe Luis the freedom to drive forward and create chances.

With this formation firmly in place, Gameiro will most likely be chosen by Simeone to partner up with Griezmann in what would be a French attacking double-act next season.
