What the FA Cup Could Mean for Louis Van Gaal

Manchester United fans finally have something to cheer for after Louis Van Gaal led his men to an emphatic FA Cup semi-final triumph against a resilient Everton side with David De Gea being the pick of players in that tie as he saved a penalty which could have given the Toffees the edge in the keenly anticipated encounter.

Manchester United appear set to miss out on Champions League football this season judging by their current League position, although a lot could still happen between now and the final Premier League match-day.

Nonetheless, United supporters can take pride in the fact that the FA Cup is up for grabs, and they’ll be hoping that Louis Van Gaal can bring the illustrious trophy back to Old  Trafford. Going by the looks of things the Red Devils might win some silverware after the flurry of complaints that has been thrown at the United hierarchy since the start of the season.

LVG’s position at Manchester United has been put under massive scrutiny on many occasions this term and most would argue that he hasn’t made much of an impact at Old Trafford. However, that’s far from the case as he’s continued the Red Devils’ youth philosophy by integrating a number of youngsters into the first team with the most eccentric of them all being none other than Marcus Rashford.

Rashford has been United’s bright spark in a rather dark season as the young Englishman’s goals have been quite crucial to United’s progression in the second half of the term.

But surely the youth aspect of Van Gaal’s stay at United won’t be taken into consideration during his performance evaluation. LVG’s fate could already be sealed despite the pending meeting with Crystal Palace at Wembley due to United’s absence from next season’s Champions League.

Winning the FA Cup could give Van Gaal one more season to prove his worth while it could also serve as a parting gift with reports suggesting that Jose Mourinho is set to take over at Old Trafford during the summer in a bid to get Manchester United back to the pinnacle of English football.

All the pressure though seems to be coming from the fans rather that the Board of Directors as Sir Alex Ferguson has expressed his desire to keep LVG at the helm of things on a couple of occasions and as we all know Fergie has a big say in United’s proceedings.

There has also been some speculation that Giggs could finally take on the United managerial role if LVG gets sacked at the end of the season and there’s no doubt that the Welshman would get a massive reception from the United supporters due to his Legendary status as a player.

Louis Van Gaal’s sights must be set on clinching the FA Cup if he’s to have a real chance of keeping his job as United will surely be considering their options if the Dutch Tactician fails to make the most of the FA Cup.
