Jose Mourinho has finally completed the transition from London to Manchester as he officially was named the new Man United boss.
The Portuguese Tactician has put pen-to-paper on a three-year deal with the Red Devils, with a clause allowing for a possible one-year extension.
Manchester United’s executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward said announcing the appointment: “José is quite simply the best manager in the game today. He has won trophies and inspired players in countries across Europe and, of course, he knows the Premier League very well, having won three titles here.
“I’d like to take this opportunity to welcome him to Manchester United. His track record of success is ideal to take the club forward.”
It’s fair to say that Manchester United didn’t do a good job of keeping Mourinho’s arrival secret during the season as there were many speculations that the Portuguese Tactician would replace Louis van Gaal at the helm of things once the season was over.
The confirmation of Mourinho’s arrival was just somewhat of a formality as the entire football world was keenly aware that he would be Van Gaal’s successor.
After being axed from his job as the Chelsea manager, the Special One will most definitely be keen on putting the past behind him as he looks forward to bring the glory days back to Old Trafford.
Mourinho said in an interview aired on the club’s television channel: “I feel great. I think this comes at the right moment in my career. Man Utd is a club you need to be prepared for because they are what I call a giant club and giant clubs need the best managers.
“I’m ready for it. I’m proud. I’m honoured. I cannot wait for 7th July to go on the pitch.
“I think we can put our club into perspective. One perspective is the last three years; another is the history. I prefer to forget the past three years.
“I want to win. I need the supporters and players to feel that.”
Manchester United have been caught up in a whirlpool of uncertainty ever since Sir Alex Ferguson retired. David Moyes came in to fill Fergie’s position, but it didn’t take long before he lost the job.
Then came Van Gaal, who enjoyed a few successful moments as United boss such as the recent FA Cup trophy that he duly masterminded after missing out on the Champions League.
Mourinho has a proven track record regarding silverware. The Special One been able to deliver at every club he’s managed even though some of his successes were somewhat short-term.
One major talking point regarding Mourinho’s appointment is the fact that United’s young stars may not get first-team opportunities. The likes of Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard who impressed during their debut season under LVG may not be part of Mourinho’s plans.

It will be interesting to see the sort of tactics that Mourinho will employ at United, considering the elaborate tactical approaches he’s well known for as seen in his previous stints with Chelsea, Real Madrid and Inter Milan.
Mourinho’s arrival is sure to attract a couple of high profile players with reports suggesting that Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Karim Benzema may be on their way to Old Trafford.
