Leeds United Squad Vulnerabilities and Top Transfer Targets

Garry Monk’s debut as Leeds United’s manager was far from ideal, with the team suffering a 3-0 defeat against QPR at Loftus Road. To compete for promotion, the club must address their squad’s weaknesses and bring in reinforcements. We take a look at Leeds United squad vulnerabilities and potential signings to strengthen the weak areas.

Defensive Vulnerabilities

Leeds United Squad vulnerabilities are evident

With only 22 players in the senior squad and Gaetano Berardi’s recent injury, Leeds United squad vulnerabilities especially in defence are evident. Monk needs to react quickly and bring in the new players. The team has just three centre-backs and two full-backs, including the sidelined Berardi, highlighting the urgent need for reinforcements.

Summer Transfer Targets

Liam Moore is a transfer target for Leeds United

Leicester City defender Liam Moore, available for a cut-price of £1 million, is a potential target for Leeds. However, Reading is also interested in securing his signature.

Loan Options

Tottenham defender Dominic Ball

Given their financial constraints, Leeds may consider loan deals. Tottenham defender Dominic Ball, who had a solid year at Rangers, could be a viable option despite his lack of experience.

Full-Back Additions:

 Conor McLaughlin

Leeds is eyeing two full-backs: Conor McLaughlin and Alexis Scholl. McLaughlin, part of Northern Ireland’s squad at the European Championships in France, and the 25-year-old right-back could be an excellent option for the position, especially after Berardi’s setback. Still, Fleetwood Town has the final say, and until the formal approach is made, it’s only a speculation.

Midfield Reinforcements:

Liam Bridcutt, a fan favourite, is a key target for Leeds and they would love to see him rejoin the club. The club is eager to bring back the defensive midfielder, and with David Moyes not opposing the move, a loan deal seems likely.

Pablo Hernandez

Monk is also in search of an attacking midfielder to fit his 4-2-3-1 formation. Following Ronaldo Vieira’s unconvincing performance, Monk may use Pablo Hernandez as an AMC or seek a new playmaker to fill the role. At the moment, the manager doesn’t have a player who is a natural attacking playmaker, making it crucial for him to find the right additions to strengthen the team and boost their promotion chances.
